A long-time resident of Nashville, Dr. Edwards grew up in Kentucky and graduated Western Kentucky University. After earning his Bachelor of Science degree, he attended Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. After medical school he served as Battle Group Surgeon in the U.S. Army, 1st Calvary Division in Korea and he remains a consultant to the U.S. Army.

Dr. Edwards and his wife Betsy (a retired attorney), have three children and seven grandchildren. He enjoys reading, bridge and playing cards with his grandchildren.
