Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile Dysfunction Doesn’t Have to Be Something You Live With
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the difficulty getting or maintaining an erection firm enough for sexual activity. It is common, and it can happen for many reasons — including age, certain health conditions, medications, prostate cancer treatment and other factors.
Most importantly, ED is treatable.
Whether you’ve recently started experiencing ED or you’ve already tried treatment without getting the results you want, Urology Associates offers a range of options. The right treatment depends on your overall health, the cause and severity of your ED, what you’ve previously tried and your personal goals.

Treatment Options
Oral Medications
Prescription medications are often one of the first treatments considered for ED. These medications help increase blood flow to the penis and may help improve the ability to achieve and maintain an erection.
May be appropriate for men who are able to safely take ED medication and respond adequately to it.
Vacuum Erection Devices
A vacuum erection device uses suction to draw blood into the penis to create an erection. A constriction ring can then help maintain the erection during sexual activity.
This is a non-surgical, medication-free option that may work well for some men.
Penile Injection Therapy
With injection therapy, medication is injected directly into the penis to increase blood flow and produce an erection.
For some men who don’t respond adequately to oral medications, injections can provide another non-surgical treatment option.
Penile Implants
For men with ED that hasn’t responded adequately to other treatments, a penile implant may provide a long-term solution.
A penile implant, also called a penile prosthesis, is a device surgically placed inside the penis that allows a man to create an erection when desired. Urology Associates describes implants as an option generally considered when other ED treatments have not been successful.
Unlike medications or injections that are used each time before sexual activity, an implant is designed to provide a dependable way to achieve an erection when desired.
You Still Have Options
Erectile dysfunction treatment isn’t one-size-fits-all. If medication hasn’t provided the results you want — or you’ve stopped treatment because of side effects, inconvenience or lack of effectiveness — it may be time to revisit your options.
Advances in ED treatment mean there may be another approach that’s a better fit for you.
